Officials propose reinvention of ACE in Ridgeland

Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence officials have proposed a reinvention of the vocational school that could keep the building operational beyond 2019.

The proposal, described as a “high-tech career center,” was unanimously approved by the Jasper County school board last week. The idea will be pitched to the Beaufort County school board Tuesday.

ACE director Mike Lovecchio is asking approval to move forward with the concept he and the ACE board have developed for the Okatie school that has been jointly operated by the neighboring school districts since the 1970s.

The districts’ operations agreement is set to expire June 30, 2019, as Beaufort County has made plans to focus on its in-house career and technical programs.
