Before heading anywhere, be sure to visit the Chamber and Visitors Center as the friendly staff will be able to direct you to any restaurants, lodging or activities you and your family might be interested in.
Take a look around in the historic Frampton Plantation House, where you’ll find it transformed in to the Lowcountry Visitors Center and Museum. The house is complete with antique furnishings, display cases featuring neighboring museums, and rooms recreated in to a 1900’s plantation style parlor.
For the history buffs of the family, step back in time and visit the Pauline Pratt Webel Museum. When visiting you will notice the many collections of ancient Indian artifacts, prints and Civil War memorabilia. Or take the kids and see the Argent Steam Engine, located at 36 Main Street in Hardeeville. Nicknamed “Old Number 7,” it represents the turn-of-the century railroading business throughout the state and once was used to carry timber from the forest to the mill.

If you enjoy the outdoors, many visitors take to The Blue Heron Nature Trail. There you can take some time and identify native plant species to amuse your inner botanist. Or relax and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the lowcountry wildlife. The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is also a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, consisting of over 30,000 acres of river, creek, and freshwater marshes.

Or stay a while and dine at the restaurant, located in front of the market so you can’t miss it. They serve a selection of seafood platters, burgers and even a menu for the little ones. Don’t forget to try one of their homemade desserts before you leave. Their Banana Pudding is not something you want to miss out on.
When you’re really wanting to plan ahead, Jasper County hosts the annual Gopher Hill Festival in Ridgeland, South Carolina. With food, kids’ activities, and live entertainment, it’s no wonder the locals look forward to this event year after year.
