Plan A Family-Friendly Fall Getaway To Jasper County, South Carolina

With the hustle and bustle of the summer in the rearview and school now in full swing, it’s time to look ahead to a fall getaway with the family. And where better to escape to than South Carolina’s Jasper County?

Here, you’ll find a range of family-friendly things to do for all ages—outdoor activities, unique shopping, one-of-a-kind local dining and more.

Take a look at the fun in store for you and your crew. Craft a custom itinerary with the favorites to follow.

Explore the Great Outdoors in Jasper County

Nestled among moss-covered oak trees, stately palmettos and thousands of acres of pine forests, visitors will find an outdoor sportsman’s paradise in Jasper County. Take your pick of fishing, paddling, hiking and wildlife sightseeing. The year-round mild temps mean you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors during any season, including fall and winter.

Cast a line along the Savannah, Tullifinny, Coosawhatchie, Pocotaligo and New rivers.

If you love to saltwater fish, head to the southern tip of the county where the Savannah River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Gear up for a day full of hiking, paddling and wildlife viewing at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge spans 30,000 acres of vital wildlife habitat, home to a broad range of birds, white-tailed deer, otters, gray foxes, alligators and so much more. During the fall season, you’ll also see an array of migratory birds and butterflies from the north.

If you have littles in your crew or simply prefer a more leisurely experience, hop on the refuge’s scenic, 4.5-mile Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive, open 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset.

For a shorter, more casual stroll in nature, you can’t go wrong with the Blue Heron Nature Trail. Though the trail is only a little more than half a mile long, it loops around a serene pond and features a breathtaking garden that’s a haven for butterflies, birds, ducks, and gorgeous native plant species. Around the pond, you’re sure to see a multitude of fish, turtles, ducks, wading herons and even a few alligators.
