Air Transportation
Ridgeland Airport – Located in Ridgeland on Grays Highway, this small craft airport has a 3100 foot paved and lighted runway and offers 100 LL fuel, major airframe and major power plant repairs. There are two major airports located within 45 minutes.
Climate
The climate in Jasper County is mild with a mean annual temperature of 65.9 F. January’s average temperature is 49.9 F while July’s average temperature is 81.1 F.
Education
Jasper County is a single education district with two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one vocational center. Private schooling is also available in both communities.
Higher education facilities for the area are provided by Technical College of the Lowcountry and the University of South Carolina 4 year satellite campus in southern Jasper County at New River. Nearby Savannah Georgia has two 4 year colleges.
History
Formed in 1912, Jasper County is South Carolina’s third youngest county, but has since grown to a population of around 16,000. Ridgeland, the town once known as Gopher Hill, serves as the county seat at the geographic center of the county. Both Ridgeland and Hardeeville, the two incorporated towns in the county, are located on the vital north-south transportation artery of Interstate 95 at Exits 5, 8, 21 & 22. Point South at I-95 Exit 33 is a thriving Interchange on Hwy. 14 and features an abundance of accommodations & restaurants.
Industry
The county offers three major industrial parks as well as membership with four contiguous counties in the nation’s first multi-county industrial complex. The labor force in a 30 mile radius numbers in excess of 200,000. A fully developed infrastructure network assures water, electric power, gas, sewer and service roads throughout the county.
Location
Jasper County is located in the southwestern section of South Carolina and forms the boundary with Georgia on the western side. It is strategically located between the historic port cities of Charleston and Savannah and has seven interchanges on the North/South corridor of Interstate 95.
