Jasper County is a sportsmans’ paradise, especially when it comes to fishing. With our abundant waterways, including the Savannah River and various lakes, you can enjoy a day of angling for bass, catfish, and other freshwater species.
For golf enthusiasts, Jasper County boasts several exceptional courses. Ridgeland is home to two world-class golf clubs, Congaree Golf Club and Sergeant Jasper Golf Club. While in Hardeeville, check out the Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes and Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club.
The Hilton Head National Golf Club, located just a short drive away, offers a challenging 18-hole course surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
Our county is also renowned for excellent hunting opportunities. Whether you’re interested in deer, turkey, or waterfowl hunting, the county offers a variety of game species and hunting grounds. Jasper County is blessed with natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for outdoor exploration. Take a hike or bike ride along the scenic trails of the Tillman Sand Ridge Heritage Preserve. This natural area offers breathtaking views, diverse wildlife, and a chance to reconnect with nature.
Make sure you visit the Blue Heron Nature Trail where you can drive or stroll through identify native plant species or local wildlife. Or head to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge with over 30,000 acres of river, creek, and freshwater marshes. Whether you’re an avid birder or simply enjoy nature walks, this refuge will leave you in awe.
Historical Sites
Immerse yourself in the rich history of Jasper County by visiting its historical sites. Stop by the massive Jasper County Courthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Don’t miss the Pratt Memorial Library, where the walls are lined with more than 200 portraits and maps relating to Lowcountry history. Approximately 250 rare books tell the history of the area, and archeological artifacts are displayed throughout.
While you’re in the area, stop by the tomb of one of South Carolina’s finest sons, Thomas Heyward, Jr. His burial site is across the creek from White Hall Plantation, where Heyward lived. A half-mile-long lane of towering live oaks leads from Highway 462 to the family cemetery where the State of South Carolina erected a monument and bust of Heyward in 1920.
Local Brewery & Cuisine
After a day of outdoor adventures and history lessons, unwind and sample some local brews at River Dog Brewing Company. This locally-owned brewery is nationally-recognized as creating award-winning craft beers right here in Ridgeland, SC. Their menu of draft beers is ever changing, so you’re sure to find something you love. They even allow special events or tastings, so if you’re in town for a special occasion like a bachelor party, call ahead to see if you can reserve a space.
No guys’ trip is complete without indulging in delicious local cuisine. Jasper County offers a variety of dining options, ranging from Southern comfort food to fresh seafood. Visit local restaurants like Fiddlers Seafood Market & Restaurant or Pizza Bella on Main. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a glass of sweet tea or a local craft beer.
